Lovely nose. Sweet and aromatic: almost gentle. Restrained. There is a touch of spice woven with candied fruit. This is super-elegant and sophisticated. Fine and very subtle. Lovely though still needs time to open up and show its best. Lovely.

Castiglione Falletto. Pale ruby. Sweet start with a hint of autumn. Very seductive. With firm tannins but no shortage of fruit. Severe, these 2006s! But there is energy and persistence here. (JR)
The estate's 2006 Barolo Bricco Boschis offers up dark red cherries, leather, anise and spices, all of which come together nicely on a mid-weight frame. The 2006 possesses gorgeous persistence on the palate and a long, mineral-laced finish, even if it doesn't have the sheer appeal or promise today of the 2005.

This is a rather feminine Bricco Boschis. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026. Cavallotto has been on a tear of late. This year I tasted a number of exceptional wines from this small, family-run property. In particular, readers should keep an eye out for the estate’s 2005s. Late flowering that year reduced the crop by nearly 50% and resulted in a set of huge, powerful wines that are atypical for the vintage and that should age exquisitely over the coming years.
