Bright medium red. Musky blueberry, black raspberry, menthol and a cool chalky quality on the nose. Densely packed, fine-grained and seamless but youthfully imploded, showing vibrant, extremely backward flavors of raspberry, pomegranate and minerals. Builds impressively on the firmly tannic finish. There's something Musigny-like about this beauty, but today there's no way in.

Lovely cranberry fruit, moderate tannins that have a floury texture. Good concentration though not much complexity – yet. Has something intrinsically compelling that bodes well for future development. (RH)

(Clavelier's parcel of old vines lies above the Musigny of de Vogue): Redcurrant, iron and flinty minerality on the nose. Penetrating, mineral-driven wine with terrific density of material and a distinctly saline character. Finishes chalky, sappy and very long. This is 13% natural alcohol. Always an excellent cuvee. (My sample of the Corton Le Rognet Vieilles Vignes had just finished its malolactic fermentation and had too much lees in suspension to assess with confidence.)

This is arguably the most elegant wine in the range with its ultra-pure aroma of essence of red pinot fruit, wet stone, anise and dried floral scents. There is an intense minerality to the beautifully well-detailed medium weight flavors that possess a lacy mouth feel yet culminate in a serious, chalky and muscular finish. This delivers flat out terrific length and I really like how the finale fans out. In a word, brilliant. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2024+
