Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières from Antoine Jobard is showing a little excessive new oak on the nose that detracts from the precision and focus. The palate is taut on the entry with lemon peel and sea salt on the entry, focused and energetic at first but just missing a little harmony towards the linear finish. I would like to see this gain more weight and presence here. The jury's out on this one at the moment, though I am pretty certain that it will improve with bottle age.

(15% new oak): Pale yellow. Orange oil, stone, hazelnut and a hint of vanilla on the nose; a real essence of Genevrieres. Rich and silky on the palate, but with lovely lift to the flavors of orange, stone fruits and minerals. Then quite dry and uncompromising on the back end, finishing with a lightly tannic impression. This classically styled Meursault should age very well.
Bright lemon and lime zest on the nose, the oak finely restrained in the background but adding spice. A little chalky in texture. Fresh but not particularly intense at the end. (JH)
