Opaque ruby. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit aromas are lifted and sharpened by a spicy nuance and a hint of fresh violet. The sappy, sharply focused blackberry and boysenberry flavors show a surprisingly light touch for their power. Closes supple and sweet, with velvety tannins lending shape. This suave wine is round, seamless and extremely appealing now but it has enough depth to ensure a slow and graceful evolution in bottle.

Easily one of the top wines in the vintage, the incredible 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet comes from the northern part of the appellation and is made from 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre. Full-bodied, decadent and layered, with fabulous mid-palate depth and building tannin and structure, it knocks it out of the park with it ripe black raspberry, roasted meats, chocolate, licorice and toasted spice aromas and flavors. While this might take a back seat to the 2010 and 2007, it’s an awesome wine that will have 15-20 years of longevity.

(80% grenache and 20% mourvedre): Bright purple. Deeply pitched aromas of blackcurrant, cherry compote, licorice and violet, plus a hint of smoked meat. Suave and juicy, with ripe acidity framing weighty dark berry, candied licorice and bitter chocolate flavors. Finishes with well-buffered tannins, lingering smokiness and chewy, gripping tannins. Distinctly rich and broad-shouldered in style; this will work well with the richest red meat dishes.
