The 2013 Quintus has a slightly stalky nose and moderate definition, with dark berry fruit, tobacco and cola. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. It's a little dry and lacks some depth on the finish. But it is balanced with no signs of greenness. It's Pomerol-like in style. Drink now. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

NHB. Mid-shaded crimson. Light and rather tart and hollow with some drying tannins on the end. Short. (JR)

Tasted blind. Mid crimson/garnet. Not the freshest nose. But some density of fruit and some powdery tannins. Some attempt to make a good wine here rather than just giving up! (JR)

These were the early days of Château Quintus, just after the purchase of Château L'Arrosée, moving this newly-created estate up to 28ha from the original 15ha (although production remained almost exactly the same after intense selection in 2013). This is narrowing in on tertiary flavours, with edges of rust and earth alongside soft rapsberry fruits and campfires smoke. Oyster shell and soy on the finish give a saline lift. 25% of overal production in the 1st wine, 43% new oak for ageing, harvest September 30 to October 9.
