The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Vigneto Gallina (Magnum) is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic complexity but it remains quite young, almost shockingly so. It is a bit rich and oaky as the wines were here back then, but the excess heat and drought of that year are not especially evident. Overall, the Gallina has aged quite well. It's still rather fresh and also highly representative of this era at La Spinetta.

The La Spinetta 2011 Barbaresco Gallina Vürsù is a gorgeous expression that embraces the fullest, most generous and abundant side of the Nebbiolo grape. This warm vintage Barbaresco pushes all of the right buttons. The wine excels in terms of texture and intensity. Candied cherry and blackberry syrup emerge from the nose with dark spice, leather and moist chewing tobacco. The wine is polished and fine in terms of texture and elegant tertiary notes are already showing beautifully. This is a standout Barbaresco.

High-toned aromatics meld into dark red cherries, plums, spices, mint and new leather. A wine of detail, nuance and precision, the 2011 impresses for its balance and overall harmony. Over the last year, the 2011 has developed into a rich, explosive Barbaresco.

(the 2011 Barbarescos were bottled in July of this year): Medium red. Plum, redcurrant, tobacco, sweet spices and a floral nuance on the nose. Fine-grained red berry flavors are complicated by floral and herbal notes, along with an exotic suggestion of peach. Already expressive but the leanest and most linear of these three 2011 Barbarescos. Not at all a sweet style, with the tannins showing a slightly dry edge.
