The 2013 Clos du Marquis has a distant nose that is missing presence. However, with aeration, it musters light leathery black fruit and a touch of black pepper. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied with pliant tannins and moderate weight but lacks grip and substance on the finish. But overall, I don't have many complaints after ten years, given the growing season. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Focus on soft and appealing fruits, gently aromatic strawberry, raspberry and red cherry character, edges of rose petal, fragrant tomato leaf and tobacco. Worth looking out for, ready to drink. Harvest from October 2 to 17.
73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc. Mid garnet. Fine stony dark-red fruit. So pure in its fruit aroma. More savoury and chocolatey on the palate, sweetness of oak and rounded tannins. Light in texture but persistent and nicely dry on the finish. (JH)
Tasted blind. Deep garnet. Toasty oak covering a rather stalky/dusty aroma. Rather green on the palate. 'Not a year for second wines.' (JH)

One of the leading estates in Bordeaux, Ch. Léoville Las Cases is one of the largest and oldest Classed Growths in the Médoc. Along with Ch. Ducru-Beaucaillou, it is widely considered one of the best estates in Saint-Julien.
