Tasting notes
The 2010 Barolo Cannubi shows great intensity on the bouquet and less momentum in the mouth. The nose is redolent of ripe cherry and forest fruit with leather, rosemary and autumnal leaf. The mouth is streamlined and light. What it lacks in heft, it makes up for in length. Give it five years or more to further develop. Drink: 2016-2025. Barolo. Maturing mid ruby with orange rim. Upfront oak with bags of fruit underneath. Oak is still a little dominant and fruit still needs to emerge, but the concentration is there. Rich and finely structured tannins. Firmly modernist but sophisticated too. Promising. (WS)
Barolo. Mature-looking mid ruby. Quite powerful, sweet fruit and density on the nose. Backward on the palate but with lots of concentration and power. Great balance and style. Hint of candied fruit, but complex and succulent. Gripping. (WS)
A dark, voluptuous wine, the 2010 Barolo Cannubi is laced with dark red cherries, plums, smoke and licorice. The style is quite powerful, tannic and intense, especially within the context of Cannubi, yet the 2010 possesses good inner sweetness and perfume, not to mention solid overall balance.
