The 2012 Le Difese is a bright and fruit-forward blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Sangiovese (aged one year in oak) that shows a point of ripe fruit or strawberry at the very start. There’s a frank simplicity to this wine that makes it a pleasure to drink without too much contemplation. That solid core of ripe fruit is embellished by soft contours of spice and tobacco.

Tenuta San Guido's 2012 Le Difese is a soft, fruity red to drink over the next handful of years. Sweet tobacco, anise, crushed flowers, dried cherries and menthol inform the forward finish. Le Difese is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese.

Wonderfully plummy and ripe on the nose, finely ground tannin, and slight spiciness on the finish. Delicate and light, but not thin – there is plenty of savoury bite and umami character on the palate to get stuck in to. (RH)
