While I found the submitted bottle of 2005 Galets Blonds to be suspect and off, the 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Bargeton was smoking good! Full-bodied, ripe, textured and decadently styled, it gives up tons of chocolatey dark fruits, minerality, spice and licorice aromas and flavors. The structure here is perfectly integrated, and while I think this is at maturity, it will continue to sing for another decade or so. Impressive stuff!

Another wow wine, the 2005 Patrick Lesec Châteauneuf du Pape Bargeton shows amazing aromatics of raspberry fruit, graphite, licorice and tar. With air, there's a decidedly smoky, mocha and espresso slant. The palate is medium to full bodied with impressive structure, a balanced feel and a long finish with ripe tannins. Certainly a modern, ripe expression but it still shows plenty of typicity and is absolutely stunning.

Saturated ruby. Sexy raspberry liqueur and garrigue aromas are complicated by fresh flowers and cracked pepper. Rich and velvety, with deep cherry and red berry flavors and an impressively expansive finish. The tannins here are extremely fine and add gentle structure while letting the suave fruit take the lead. Refuses to let go of the palate.

Deep ruby. Concentrated cassis and blackberry aromas are given depth by suave cola, oak spice and sassafras notes. Impressively deep and sweet, with powerful dark fruit flavors and exotic floral pastille qualities. The sweetness builds further on the long, expansive finish. This is one gorgeous wine.
