Magnum. Dense. Green fruits and marzipan on the nose, very tense and muscular with apparently elevated acidity but awfully youthful. It’s thrashing about like a restless foetus. Get me out of here, it seems to be saying! Still very sleek muscles and just developing. Lots of green on the finish. (JR)

Very ripe but pure and discreet aromas of citrus peel, white flowers, medicinal herbs, clove and nut; a very Puligny-side style of Batard. Then chewy, saline, dry and quite backward, conveying a powerful sappy quality and good cut and verve but hiding its fruit. This extremely backward wine, which was bottled with the Chevalier-Montrachet ten days before my visit, displays fascinating botanical herb notes that reminded me of Benedictine. Finishes with superb building length and energy.

Since 2003. Racked three weeks ago. 90-year-old vines with very small berries. Every year it takes six months to ferment. Very dense and rich on the nose – though the difference between his Grands Crus and simplest wines is not nearly as marked as in many other producers. A certain mealiness. Very brawny and rather strident and positively trumpeting its extra intensity and richness. Very particular. Not as obviously Colin-Morey. A very particular wine. (JR)
