The NV (2019) Extra-Brut Aÿ La Côte Faron is delicate and haunting in its beauty. Cranberry, crushed rose petal, mint, sage, kirsch and dried herbs open effortlessly in a Champagne endowed with incredible drive and energy. This is classic Aÿ in all its dimensions. Today, the 2019-base is quite closed, but its vibrancy is so captivating and suggestive of a bright future. Wild flowers, spice, mint and sage lift the huge, resonant finish. Dosage is 1.7 grams per liter. Disgorged: February 3, 2026.

Informed by the oldest historical blend of all lieux-dits, dating back to 1994, the NV Blanc de Noirs Aÿ La Côte Faron based on the 2017 vintage was disgorged in February 2024 with 1.5 grams per liter dosage. From a single southwest-facing Pinot Noir vineyard in Aÿ-Champagne, defined by hot daytime sun and refreshed by occasional winds (hence its former name, Contraste), it is one of the richest, more demonstrative wines in the range. Exploding from the glass with notes of honeysuckle, candied lemon zest, warm spices and dried fruit, it’s a highly aromatic, enveloping wine with succulent acidity. Despite its immediate expressiveness, it’s a seriously structured wine that can withstand the test of time. Full-bodied and defined by the high maturity imparted by the site, it is more demonstrative out of the gates than Le Bout du Clos. This is a superb wine that transcends the challenges of the base vintage.

Spanning 2010-1994 this is a steeper site in Aÿ with less clay than Ambonnay. It shows bright and elegant red berry fruit aromas of strawberries and raspberries. The palate is quite svelte and elegant but possesses phenomenal power and tangy, sapid appeal. The finish holds fine with mineral-flecked grapefruit flavors. The nose speaks more to the grape, the palate to the terroir. A fascinating and brilliant Champagne. Drink now.
