The 1995 Palmer is a step up in quality over preceding vintages. This gorgeous bouquet has vibrant red fruit, rose petals and violet. A touch of melted road tar comes through with time. Classic Palmer. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well balanced with good substance. There is a light savory element to this Palmer, with meat juices, thyme and white pepper. It's cohesive, with a good grip on the long finish. This is drinking perfectly now. Tasted at the Palmer vertical at the château.

51% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc. Bottle deposit. Brownish ruby. Much broader and more seductive than the 1996. Much more life and suppleness and concentration. This is good stuff. Real stuffing here and richness. Lovely breadth and this seems to have quite a future even if it is capable of giving huge pleasure already. Proves how important Merlot is to Palmer. (JR)
Very sunny vintage. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 51% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc. Most muscular wine of the last 20 years. Deep garnet. Really quite floral (violets and floral dried herbs) but also lots of dark fruit. Very firm and muscular and dense. Powerful but still aromatic. Some dried fruits, even a savoury dark toffee/molasses note. Also cedary and fresh and cigar box. Slight dustiness. Really firm, tannins a little dry on the finish and more liquorice as it opens up.
