This was scored pretty well at the time, seen as one of the values of the vintage, and it has just about held on, but the real pleasure will have come in its first decade. At this point there is bricking to the colour around the edges, with touches of soy, wood smoke and blond toboacco on the nose. Starts out well, with charming blackberry puree, but there just isn't enough fruit to carry it through the palate. Vignobles Garcin, 50% new oak.

Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Very high VA. Dangerous and as though the flavour had been cooked out. Falls away. (JR)
Charcoal, espresso roast, blackcurrants and spice are all present in this medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, relatively evolved and precocious Haut-Bergey, which is just now attaining its plateau of maturity. Soft tannins and an attractive plushness are followed by a wine capable of drinking well for another decade or more.
