The vineyard of Chevalier-Montrachet is situated immediately above the portion of Le Montrachet lying in Puligny, and directly bordering Chassagne. It covers 1.4ha producing an extremely limited yield of 23,000 bottles of wine in an average year, or 23.6 hectolitres per hectare. Within this grand cru climat is Les Demoiselles vineyard, a 1.04ha parcel which was purchased in 1794 by the first members of Louis Henry Denis Jadot's family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium. It remained among the Louis Jadot properties until 1887, when, due to a deed of division, it passed out of the family's hands. Several years later it was re-acquired through a joint-purchase effort initiated by Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot and Domaine Louis Latour, who today remain equal owners of Les Demoiselles. Totally alluring on the nose – hard to describe exact aromas (lightly creamy, nutty, mealy but also minerally citrus) but you just know you are in for a treat. Creamy on the palate but there's a firm mineral leading edge and enduring mineral and lemon finish. Racy and elegant. Very long. (JH)
