Hand-numbered magnum number 58 of 1,790 produced. Date of harvest: 4 October 2004. Deep, impenetrable ruby and still very youthful looking. Very tight and compact blackberry and cassis. Leafy, minty and a little cool on the nose with just a hint of graphite. Succulent palate laced with graphite notes and electrifying acidity. Beautifully sculpted, gravelly tannins. Not ready by far. The flagship 2004 Il Caberlot is another wine that has put considerable depth in bottle. Rich, layered and exceptionally beautiful, the 2004 impresses for tis overall balance, class and symmetry. The intensely savory notes that were present when the wine was young are now beautifully integrated with the fruit. This is a beautiful, essential vintage that tells so much about Il Caberlot and its potential.

The introduction of a second selection has yielded not only a more affordable entry-level wine, but a superb Caberlot as well. All class and elegance, the stunning 2004 Caberlot presents expressive, exotic aromatics and layers of black currants and blueberries buttressed by prominent mineral notes on an ample frame with fine tannins. Showing plenty of structure as well as stuffing, it should offer its most rewarding drinking beginning around age ten, so patience will be required. The 2004 Caberlot looks to be the finest effort yet from this estate. It is not to be missed.
