Deep red. Bright, mineral-laced raspberry and tobacco on the nose. Silky, fresh and pure, with vibrant red berry flavors dusted with fine tannins and supported by zesty acidity. The long, clean, penetrating finish picks up hints of graphite and violet pastille. This is superb.

Irrefutably mediocre, the 2004 reds are herbal, thin, austere, unattractive efforts, and only a few will be recommendable after bottling. The 2004 Crozes-Hermitages was of average quality with high acidity, vegetal personalities, and little texture or concentration. (the yield here was reportedly four hectoliters per hectare) Medium ruby. Powerful aromas of dark cherry, plum and tangy licorice. Quite sweet and vibrant on the palate, showing impressive concentration and a distinctly thick texture. The pungent minerally flavors of tobacco, cherry and violet pastille build and expand through the finish. This is impressively deep, expansive and rich but also has very good underlying structure.
