Engel's 1993s reveal some of the vintage's toughness, but there is also plenty of sweet, ripe fruit, particularly in the three grand crus. The Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees exhibits a medium dark ruby color, a sweet nose of earth, fruit, herbs, and spices, elegant, medium-bodied flavors with good ripeness and spice, and moderate tannin. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Engel's 1993s may be the finest and most consistent group of wines he has yet made. All were bottled without filtration, and the Grands Echezeaux was bottled with neither fining nor filtration. A Peter Vezan Selection (Paris fax # 011 33 1 42554293), various American importers
