Tasting notes
The Quinta do Vesuvio 2006 appears to have improved considerably since I last tasted it in 2008, principally because it has developed greater length and cohesion. It has a very intense bouquet with macerated black cherries, dates, iodine and a touch of violets: precise, crisp and already demonstrating youthful intensity. The palate is full-bodied and luscious, opulent and powerful with a velvety texture. There are layers of succulent dark black fruits with black plum, fig, blueberry and just a touch of alcohol on the finish. This is a spirited, ebullient Vesuvio that will repay cellaring and should continue to improve in bottle. Drink 2020-2040. Tasted October 2011.
