Tasting notes
Score 87/100 · Drink 2012-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2011

The Quinta do Vesuvio 1998 remains slightly muted on the nose with notes of small black cherries, smoke and sage. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins, the fruits having mellowed over the last few years, less high-toned with attractive black olive notes inflecting the glossy black fruits. The finish is still a little broody with a smudge of alcohol denying it delineation. Drink now-2025. Tasted October 2011. Importer: Premium Port Wines Inc., San Francisco, CA; tel. (415) 554-9920.

Savoury nose and very, very rich, pruney nose. Lots of fun and not a bad price. Quite evolved. Very rewarding. (JR)
