Score 90/100 · Drink 2019-2026, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Oct 2019

Moderately saturated medium red with an amber edge. Mature scents of smoke, game, herbs and spices, plus a whiff of asparagus. Surprisingly sweet on entry, then nicely intense and mature in the middle palate, with game and clove flavors joined by black pepper and a hint of pyrazines. My enthusiasm was a bit dampened by a slight peppery edge that dries the dusty tannins and leaves behind a hint of tartness. Perhaps a bit more vegetal than fruity at this point but by no means bitterly green. Marie-Andrée described the 2004 vintage as "a great challenge," although she maintained early on that any green character in the estate's wines in '04 were due to incomplete ripeness and not to the ladybug issue that plagued some red Burgundies that year. (13.8% alcohol; 40 hl/h; 3.5 pH; harvested on September 26)

Good medium red. Highly perfumed, tangy aromas of currant, red cherry, minerals and white pepper. Tightly wound, precise and scented, with a penetrating limestone-driven energy to the youthfully strict flavors of red fruits and minerals. Finishes with a very fine dusting of tannins and superb length. This, too, will need patience. From a production level of barely 32 hectoliters per hectare, according to the Mugneret sisters.

Medium red. Wonderfully nuanced, vibrant aromas of black cherry, violet, rose, white pepper, herbs and mint. Supple, dense and ripe but quite unevolved, with an edge of acidity contributing to the overall impression of flavor definition. "This wine has become more austere in recent years," notes Marie-Christine.
