Tasting notes
Produced from a parcel located to the left of the chateau, near the entrance to the Grands Echezeaux vineyard, this dark ruby-colored wine reveals a nose reminiscent of roasted spices and cafe au lait. This soft, supple, medium-to-full-bodied, and silky-textured wine is seductive and filled with complex blackberry, cassis, coffee, mocha, and spice flavors. Its long finish is firmer than the Suchots yet should easily melt into this offering's glorious fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2008. Represented by Russell Herman, Berkeley Heights, NJ; tel (908) 771-9082. Various Importers, including V.O.S. Selections, NY; Fedway, NJ; Classic Wines, MA; Glazers, TX; Vintage Wines, IL; De Gustibus Imports, WA. Also a Peter Vezan Selection (Paris Fax # 011-33-1-42-65-42-93).

Very good deep color. Tangy aromas of plum, licorice, nuts, spices and game: very expressive for this cuvee. Thick and textured, but less evolved than the Suchot, and without its inner-mouth personality. Currently shows a bit more tannin. This was 12% potential alcohol, chaptalized to about 13.2%.
