Good bright red. Sweet aromas of blackberry, mulberry, espresso and sandalwood. Penetrating, sweet flavors of dark berries and spices. Quite suave for Clos Vougeot, with sexy oak tones. Finishes with rather fine tannins and excellent length.

Medium-bodied and dark-colored, the cassis-scented 2001 Clos Vougeot is packed with blackberries, new oak characteristics, as well as spices. As with all of Mortet’s wines, it is deep, dense, dark, and intense. Expansive, it saturates the palate with its impressive depth of black fruits, vanilla-laced oak, and loads of tannin. Full red-ruby. Highly perfumed nose of raspberry, game, smoke and brown spices. Full, rich, supple and sweet, with a firm mineral underpinning. A very lush, fat Clos Vougeot with lovely chewy depth. Less sweet on the end than the Gevreys, but finishes very long, with big, dusty tannins.
About the producer
This estate, today with Arnaud Mortet at the helm, makes some of Gevrey-Chambertin’s finest wines. Working with 16 hectares, as well as a few négociant parcels, this property makes perfumed and chiselled Pinot Noir.
