The 2001 Riesling Clos Ste Hune shows a deep, golden color and botrytis notes on the nose. On the palate, it is still ageless even after almost 23 years in the bottle. This is a round, elegant, even delicate and pleasantly bitter Riesling that combines richness with juicy as well as intense fruit. It is reminiscent of cooked stone fruit on the nose, but it weaves in fine, spicy notes of the marly Rosacker soils. The 2001 is a dense, very intense, powerful and persistently salty Clos Ste Hune with still huge aging capacity. Tasted at the Auberge de l'Ill in November 2024.

This maturing beauty has great apricot and mandarin-orange aromas. It’s rich and concentrated with a fabulous textural complexity. Long, delicately honeyed finish where you feel that the grapes had at least a touch of noble rot. Drink or hold.

Served from a special Riedel Clos Ste Hune decanter designed to commemorate the centenary. Dark amber and an aged Riesling nose. Just starting to dry out – and tarter and seems older than the 1992 served alongside. There’s a dry finish but some fruit persists. At peak. (JR)

Served blind initially. Mid gold. Mature dry Riesling aromas. Very broad and smoky on the palate. Extremely long and rich, though bone dry overall. Obviously great quality. I thought it was older. (JR)
