Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2009-2025, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2019

23 November 2019: Bright greenish gold. Real depth and tingle on the nose but this may need decanting … it's just a little stinky but bone dry with great depth. I think I will have revise this note once the wine has seen a little air. 24 November 2019 lunchtime: I decanted the wine and it took on a bit more weight and undertow to counterbalance the initially rather stern acidity. Very classic Ste Hune without as much charm and fruit as some. But it's an insider's wine, one to be appreciated by Clos Ste Hune aficionados rather than general wine drinkers. 24 November 2019 dinnertime: The wine has really filled out and is delicious and pungent! An extraordinary transformation. I have upgraded the score from 16.5 to 17.5. (JR)

An oxidised bottle alas. Deep gold and definitely perceptibly Clos Ste Hune but the fruit was not fresh. Bone dry and essentially a good concentration of pure Riesling fruit but definitely prematurely oxidised. (JR)

At twenty years of age, the 1995 Riesling Clos Ste. Hune is utterly captivating. Secondary and tertiary notes are laced throughout, yet there is an incredible amount of freshness in the wine. Sage, lightly floral honey, almonds and dried pears caress the palate in a soft, yet wonderfully deep Clos Ste. Hune that is incredibly expressive today. The 1995 will more than satisfy readers who want to drink a complete, close to mature Clos Ste. Hune without going back to the 1970s and 1960s. With time in the glass, the 1995 gets more and more crystalline and weightless. What a dazzling wine this is.

A golden-orange color announces a very clear, ripe, intense and slightly cooked stye fruit bouquet with fine mineral flavors. The 1995 Riesling Clos Ste Hune is fresh, piquant and vital, really straight and mineral; the finish is salty and grippy, full of energy and straight. Chamomile flavors on nose and finish.
