The 2007 La Tour Blanche has an incongruous, minty bouquet with fine delineation; it's fairly open and pure though missing the complexity of its peers. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, quite Aszú like in style with a long honeyed, quince finish and a touch of spice on the aftertaste. Fine. Tasted at the 2007 horizontal in Sauternes.

Tasted single blind against its peers. I have always felt that I was mean to the La Tour Blanche when I first tasted it out of barrel, principally because of the excessive level of residual sugar. There is just a touch of reduction on the nose but it opens up nicely. The palate is very classy: a hell of a lot of fruit concentration and layer upon layer of botrytized fruit. It is not exactly subtle and is missing some finesse, whilst the finish is long and persistent, disguising its sucrosity well. Tasted January 2011.
Very light straw. Lots of and lots botrytis, very rich and nerveux and exciting, Long live the French Chambre d'Agriculture! About 80% botrytised grapes. Serious stuff. (JR)
