Very pale – almost water white. Very smoky Sauvignon indeed. Sharp aromas with a bit of sulphur but very round on the palate. Rather lovely at this point. There is even some sweetness here but it makes a good whole for drinking now. Slightly catty on the nose but very refreshing. The freshest of the flight. GV (JR)

The Grand Village is wine from their family estate and their 2009, a blend of 75% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, is a sleeper of the vintage. The good news is that there are 5,000 cases of this wine, which shows loads of raspberries and cherries, silky tannins, wonderful elegance and a medium-bodied mouthfeel. The family has been farming this same terroir for over 500 years! I grouped these two wines together because they are both produced by the Guinaudeau family, also the proprietors of Lafleur.

Excellent deep and rich crimson. Thick and sweet and offers no excuses. Flowery and lovely and fresh and super-snazzy. Very powerful and dense and much more ambitious than it has ever been. The home farm of the Guinaudeaus of Ch Lafleur in Pomerol. (JR)
