Score 88/100 · Drink 2016-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, May 2016

Tasted at the château, the 2006 Les Asteries had a slightly mushroom-like bouquet that dissipates with time in the glass, soon replaced by attractive blackberry, bilberry and mineral scents that have maintained fine precision over the last ten years. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet mulberry and red plum fruit, moderate weight in the mouth, though the finish feels a little smudged and has not aged quite as well as the Le Carré. Not bad, but personally I prefer more recent vintages. Tasted April 2016.

Farmyard barnyard bretty smells. Then extremely simple fruit – black cherry wine gum? Then astringent. No pleasure to taste. (JR)

Some unusual oak? Very tough and bitter on the palate. Gripping tannins and quite a bit of ink. Could do with a bit more middle weight. (JR)
