Tasting notes
The 1985 was bottled very late (January 1988), which has tended to dry out the wine. Medium ruby/garnet-colored, with a sweet, earthy, berry, spicy, somewhat herbaceous nose, this medium-bodied wine is pleasant, but lacks depth and fat. In addition, it is fully mature. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted 6/96.

Elegant and spicy with a lean, hard framework. The ripe plum and spice flav ors are wrapped in firm, drying tannins. Needs some time to soften up. – Wine Spectator 1988

About the producer

Wedding gift lists traditionally include wine glasses or cutlery, but in 1718, Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, the owner of Château Lafite and Château Latour and president of the Bordeaux parliament, received a rather more impressive present: Château Calon.
