Tasting notes
There are 8,000 cases of the 2000 Promis, a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah, and 10% Sangiovese aged in a combination of 50% French and 50% European barrels for 14 months. It is a deep ruby/purple-colored, seductive Italian red offering up aromas of roasted coffee, black currants, blackberries, and leather. Sweet and supple-textured, with ripe tannin, medium to full body, and impressive purity as well as elegance, this already delicious, complex 2000 is best consumed over the next 5-8 years. Kudos to Angelo Gaja, who has taken up the challenge of producing great wines far from his home base in Barbaresco. This debut release is immensely promising.
