Tasting notes
This dark ruby-colored wine is unbelievable, and potentially will be Jadot's finest 1996. An awesome nose of deep black cherries intermingled with sauteed mushrooms, underbrush, stones, and minerals is followed by an amazingly powerful yet tense personality. Complex layers of intense, precise, pure, and earthy fruit cascade over the palate in this full-bodied, thickly-textured, muscular, masculine, and well-delineated wine. The harmonious juxtaposition between this offering's outstanding depth and richness and its elegant focus is mind-blowing. A tour de force! Projected maturity: 2004-2010+. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; (212) 490-9300.

As one would expect from the '96 vintage at this point, the full, expressive, black fruit aromas remain entirely primary and lead to medium weight flavors of mouth coating richness and a fruit-driven complexity. This is still firmly tannic and the structural impression is accentuated by the bright, intense, indeed even vibrant acidity. I very much like the style of this because if though it is a touch awkward today, the excellent potential is evident. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Nov15,2001.

About the producer

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
