Score 94/100 · Drink 2025-2032, Kristaps Karklins, Wine Advocate, Jul 2025

Pol Roger’s 2002 Blanc de Blancs Vinothèque—a late release of the original disgorgement (July 2013, with a dosage of nine grams per liter)—soars from the glass with scents of dried flowers, pastry and ripe pear mingling with candied citrus zest and a faint hint of gunpowder. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and textural yet precise, it boasts a succulent, enveloping core of fruit, racy acids and a chalky finish. Now fully in its mature aromatic register, it will tempt many to pull the cork as soon as bottles reach their final destination. As ever, the Blanc de Blancs is sourced mostly from grands crus; however, since components for inclusion are determined through tasting, it occasionally incorporates premier cru fruit as well. After all, it’s not just the vineyard that determines the wine’s merit, but the quality and maturity of the fruit itself.

Very densely textured, almost to be chewed rather than sipped. The finish is decidedly rich, almost sweet. Should age well. (JR)

100% Chardonnay. Lively, very direct nose. More crisp on the nose than the regular Pol 2002. And on the palate. Quite tight and youthful. Almost slimline. Rather a strange combination between the richness of 2002 and the minerality of a Blanc de Blancs. (JR)

(L21931994D): Pale gold. Intense, mineral-dominated aromas of candied citrus fruits, pear, anise, smoky lees and chamomile, plus a sexy floral nuance and a hint of sweet butter. Palate-staining orchard and citrus fruit flavors show outstanding depth and energy, picking up chalky mineral and spice notes with air. Strikingly concentrated and precise wine with strong finishing punch and noteworthy persistence. This concentrated, deftly balanced Champagne is built for a long, graceful evolution.
