Good deep red-ruby. Enticing aromas of raspberry, red cherry and minerals. Silky, dense and seamless; superripe and creamy but with a degree of restraint. More elegant in texture than the Champans. Finishes very long and subtle, with gentler tannins than the Taillepieds. Very sexy wine.

Good dark red-ruby. Deep, rather reduced nose of superripe black- and redcurrant, smoke and pepper. Huge, fat and sweet, but with noteworthy finesse for a 2003 with this much volume. Compellingly silky and full but not at all heavy. Finishes with superb breadth, a ripe chocolatey quality, and late-arriving tannins that are perfectly buffered by sheer density.
Cask sample. Bright crimson. Sweet, almost lolly notes on the nose at first, but then interesting, seductive layers emerge. Dense and yeoman-like on the nose. Again, extraordinarily sweet on the front of the palate, almost at the expense of freshness. Convincing. Sturdy. Quite masculine. Definitely Pommard. Quite fine tannins. (JR)

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
