Score 86/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
(bottled a week prior to my visit, without fining or filtration) Medium ruby, not especially clear. Aromas of black raspberry, leather and tarry old wood. Supple and agreeable, with dark fruit, pepper and spice flavors and modest clarity and thrust. Finishes with nicely ripe, dusty tannins. (A sample of the same wine from a demi-muid showed a bit more clarity in the mouth, with similar hints of blackberry, pepper and mocha.)
