Score 89/100 · Robert Parker

Haut-Brion's long-term administrator, the highly respected Jean Delmas, has been working hard to improve the intensity and character of La Tour-Haut-Brion. That is evidenced by the 1993-95 vintages. A surprisingly supple-textured, fragrant, rich, medium-bodied wine has been produced in a vintage with a propensity to turn out stern, tannic, and occasionally hollow wines. La Tour-Haut-Brion's 1994 possesses a deep ruby/purple color, as well as that tell-tale, textbook Graves, smoky, weedy, tobacco, sweet black fruit-scented nose. The wine displays fine precision, a clean, crafted, pure winemaking style, and a smooth finish with well-integrated tannin. It can be drunk now as well as over the next 10-14 years.
