Domaine Latour-Giraud's 2.4 hectares of Meursault Genevrieres make them that famed vineyard's largest proprietor. Jean-Pierre Latour, in the 1996 vintage, decided to bottle two separate cuvees of Genevrieres, his traditional one, and a luxury bottling. Aged in 40% new oak, the Meursault Genevrieres has a tropical fruit and nut-scented nose as well as an expansive, mouth-coating, medium-to-full-bodied core of honey-covered nuts, spicy minerals. This broad-shouldered, seductive, and dense wine also possesses a long and supple finish. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2006. The score, noted on a range and in parentheses, indicates that the wine was tasted from barrel. Readers need to search out these offerings as they offer superb values for outstanding white Burgundies. Vibrant, pure aromas of lime, orange peel and minerals, with subtle oak treatment. Sweet, juicy citrus skin and mineral flavors carried by strong acids. Finer and more delicate than the Charmes, but quite long and strong on the back end, which features a peach flavor. Should age nicely.
