2011 Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres

A wine of notable potential, the 2011 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres impresses for its depth and resonance. Layers of fruit cover every inch of the palate in a decidedly extroverted, viscous Folatieres endowed with tons of personality. Still, my sense is the Folatieres shows just a hint of its potential at this early stage. Carillon works this parcel by horse.

He bought recently. Red soils that are pretty powerful with big stones. Worked by horse. Smoky exciting nose. Very finely chiselled at first and then a broad spread of fruit on the palate. But then tightens up on the finish. (JR)

There is a sufficient amount of reduction to render the nose difficult to assess. By contrast there is good freshness and verve to the mineral-driven and saline-infused middle weight flavors that exhibit fine balance and detail on the solidly persistent finish.
