Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is a touch of reduction on the nose of Sauzet’s Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 2011, but there is plenty of fruit concentration with scents of citrus lemon, apple blossom and granite. The palate is chewy on the entry, quite phenolic, with good acidity, but like Thierry Glantenay’s 2011, it is missing delineation and finesse on the finish.

An expressive and wonderfully elegant nose features notes of wet stone, acacia blossom, white peach and essence of pear. There is a really lovely sense of underlying tension to the vibrant and intense medium-bodied flavors that also exhibit plenty of minerality on the balanced, focused and linear finish that begins to fan out as it lingers. This should also amply repay mid-term cellaring. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2018+
