Tasting notes
The 1996 Torre Muga is a fragrant offering with ample savory fruit. It appears to have fully evolved but is still quite structured. It should be consumed over the near term while the fruit holds. Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates from Spain, Dedham, MA; tel. (781) 461-5767

Deep fresh ruby. Pungent, primary, sexy aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, violet, clove, tar, mint and woodsmoke. Lush and dense, with terrific acidity intensifying and framing the flavors. Wonderful violety inner-mouth sweetness. Has a powerful backbone for aging. Extremely long, slow-mounting finish truly stains the palate. If previous vintages of this wine have been new-wave in style, this one is 21st-century Rioja.
