Slightly green, leafy notes on the nose. The fruit’s a bit simple. Sweet then a bit astringent. Single-vineyard wine with the distinct flavour of elderberries and all that that entails – slightly rank. A bit too expensive at £15. (JR)

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon offers up a classic minty, white chocolate, and black currant-scented nose along with good density, medium to full body, a chunky personality, loads of flavor, and a fine finish. It should drink well for 7-10 years. American Estates Wines, Inc., Summit, NJ; tel. (908) 273-5060
