Score 90/100 · Drink 2000-2003, Robert Parker, Feb 2000

Trevor Mast has produced a gorgeous 1998 Riesling from Victoria. Intense, with Alsatian-like characteristics of petroleum and paraffin, this medium-bodied, dry, mineral, earthy, terroir-driven Riesling displays admirable levels of apple, citrus, and mineral-tinged fruit, as well as a crisp, dry finish. It should drink well for 2-3 years. Impressive! A Ted Schrauth Selection, Old Vines Australia, imported by Epic Wines, Santa Cruz, CA; tel. (408) 689-9080, and C. Daniele, New York, NY; tel. (212) 534-3421

Deep bright ruby. Crushed berries, leather and eucalyptus on the nose. Spicy dark berry and mint flavors nicely shaped by harmonious acidity; juicy and focused but also nicely pliant. Finishes with fine tannins and very good persistence.
