The 2012 Moulin Haut-Laroque is bold, juicy and expressive. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha and spice are all pushed forward in a succulent, opulent Fronsac built on texture to drink now and over the next handful of years. The blend is 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec. This is a terrific showing from the Hervé family.

This is a blend of 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec from one of the leading estates of Fronsac. The property has long been run with meticulous and passionate attention by proprietor Jean-Noël Hervé. An exceptional effort in 2012, Hervé has hit the high notes in this vintage with an inky ruby/purple wine that is fresh and pure, offering black raspberry and black currant fruit, hints of crushed rock, minerality, and a floral note in the background. It is medium to full-bodied, superbly concentrated, and very impressive. The wine is still young, but will evolve beautifully for 10-15 more years, possibly longer.
Inky purple-crimson. Rich fruit plus a touch of vanilla. Lively aroma. Tannins are a little on the dry side but there's fruit there to fill them out. A bit tough overall. (JH)
