2005 Moulin Haut Laroque

A stunning offering from one of Fronsac’s most consistent overachievers, this inky/blue/purple-tinged 2005 offers up aromas of black raspberries, crushed rocks, spring flowers, earth, and spice. Superior concentration, medium to full body, beautiful integration of acidity and tannin, and a 30+ second finish result in an impressive Fronsac. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020+

Good medium ruby-red. Spicy black cherry on the very ripe, expressive nose. Sweet and lush in the mouth; not yet showing the personality indicated by the nose, but this offers an excellent combination of layered fruit, ripe tannins and good persistence. Finishes with enticing floral lift.

Deep crimson. Great texture though not a great deal of flavour – as though it’s trying to taste as though it comes from a rather more fashionable appellation. Smooth and beautifully worked though it needs a little more acidity perhaps. (JR)
