Bright, dark red. Captivating high-toned aromas of raspberry, cherry liqueur, spices, crushed stone and musky minerals. Juicy, sappy and sharply delineated, conveying exhilarating lift to its tactile flavors of red berries, menthol and spices. Strong acidity shuts down the wine's fruit on the back, but the firmly tannic, backward finish shows soil-driven salinity and wonderfully vibrant lingering notes of dark cherry and licorice.

(from Les Rouges; like the Grands-Echezeaux, this is aging in 30% new oak): Bright dark red. Dark raspberry, bitter chocolate, violet and pungent graphite minerality on the nose. Juicy, spicy and youthfully imploded, with powerful spine to its intense dark fruit and mineral flavors. Its sappy, building finish saturates the palate with saline minerality. Distinctly grand cru Echezeaux.

Dark red cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and new leather explode from the glass in the 2012 Echézeaux. A rich, layered wine, the 2012 boasts superb depth and pure power, with tons of richness, breadth and volume. Today, the Echézeaux is simply magnificent. However, it will require bottle age to show at its best. Jadot's Echézeaux emerges from parcels in Les Rouges du Bas.

Bright mid crimson. Bitter red cherry nose. Not immediately obvious that this is a grand cru; it seems just a little spindly. A tad sour on the end. There is some density but not much charm. (JR)
