Score 91/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, May 2011

The 2006 Echezeaux emerges from the glass with intensely sweet, almost candied fruit. The aromatics and fruit are where most of the action is here, as the tannins are just a bit rough around the edges. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. Importer: Atherton Imports, Menlo Park, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639

Good saturated deep red. Black raspberry, sassafras and black pepper on the nose. Sappy and rich, with a dry, saline quality and underlying minerality adding interest to the flavors of raspberry, smoked meat and root beer. A lush but serious wine with a strong component of sweet oak and a ripe finish featuring well-buffered tannins. (ST)

A very similar if slightly more reserved nose with similar wood treatment merges into bigger, richer and more obviously concentrated flavors that possess a bit more depth and structure on the slightly longer finish.

(from vines planted in 1989) Medium red. More complex on the nose than the premier cru, offering redcurrant, smoke, earth and minerals. Deeper in pitch and chewier, but could use a bit more lift. This struck me as rather cabernet-like. Finishes with elevated alcohol and a leathery nuance.
