Score 92-94/100 · Drink 2002-2008, Pierre Rovani, Feb 1999

Displaying fresh butter, minerals, and candied lemon scents, the Corton-Charlemagne is a profoundly rich yet structured wine. It is intense, highly concentrated, powerful, full-bodied, refined, and beautifully delineated. Baked apples, kiwis, stones, and hints of mango are found in this beauty's flavor profile and throughout its impressively long finish. While it is a delight to drink now, this is one of those rare 1997s that is likely to be better with a few years of cellaring. Projected maturity: 2002-2008+. A Peter Vezan Selection (Paris Fax # 011-33-1-42654293), importers include: North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 848-8910, and a Patrick Lesec Selection (Paris Fax # 011-33-1-42843822), various American importers, including Bacchus Importers (800) 525-9699.
