Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2002-2010, Pierre Rovani, Apr 1997

The best white wine I've had from Bruno Clair, the Corton Charlemagne, is a delicious example of that renowned vineyard. Clair and Brun both assured me this wine, which took three months to ferment, will neither be fined nor filtered prior to its bottling this Spring (Clair wants readers to be aware that it may throw a deposit). With airing, the slightly muted nose began to reveal roasted sweet fruits and buttered toast. Abundant flavors of tropical fruits and minerals, with a skillful touch of oak, can be found in this viscous-textured and extremely well-balanced wine. Drink between 2002-2010. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. Known for their red wines, this domaine also makes one of Burgundy's finest roses, and, in general, good to very good whites. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the three whites I tasted on my visit in January. All three are extremely well made, displaying nice structure and excellent ripeness.
