The 2010 Cornas Vieilles Vignes is jaw-dropping stuff. Inky colored and incredibly concentrated, with sensational notes of bouquet garni, iron (blind I might have guess 2010 Clape), violets, crushed rock and decent black and blue fruits all soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, layered and pure, with awesome freshness despite it massive size and concentration, it's a profound Cornas that needs another 3-4 years of bottle age yet will have three decades of overall longevity.

Inky ruby. Cassis, cherry compote and cola on the pungent, highly aromatic nose and in the mouth. Lush and expansive, offering palate-staining dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that gain sweetness with air. Supple tannins make a late appearance and meld smoothly into this wine's densely packed dark fruit. Shows surprising vivacity for a wine of such richness.

Opaque ruby. Oak-spiced aromas of black and blue fruits, olive and vanilla bean, with a smoky overtone. Lush and palate-coating, offering intense boysenberry and cherry-vanilla flavors lifted by peppery spice and floral qualities. Manages to be both rich and lively, finishing with excellent cling and lingering spiciness.

Dense vibrant crimson. The merest hint of reduction. Very concentrated and actually a great spread of luscious, expansive fruit on the front palate following by the tightening of (purse?) strings on the finish. Very firm but lip smacking. Not as obviously ‘hot’ as some but well done. (JR)
