Moreau's 2011 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot is a bit foursquare, as wines from this site often are. Still the 2011 boasts plenty of palate presence and serious depth. The intensity of the fruit gives the illusion of early approachability, but the Morgeot is a wine that typically blossoms after a few years in bottle, and I expect that will be the case here as well. Hints of almonds, spices and mint add complexity to the resonant fruit on the deep, satisfying finish.

A ripe and very fresh nose of herbal tea, yellow orchard fruit and resin gives way to solidly concentrated flavors that display excellent size, weight and mid-palate density. There is a distinct floral character to the relatively powerful finish that isn't quite as refined as that of the Champ Gains but is every bit as persistent. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2017+
