Tasting notes
Dark, evolving ruby with bricky tinges. A fascinating nose that is totally aged Cabernet Sauvignon but doesn’t recall Bordeaux at all. Balsamic nose with notes of camphor, cardamom, black pepper, prunes and cherry all coming together in the layered nose. On the palate, a little less complex but much more concentrated than could have been expected from this year, with lots of polished, gravelly tannins. (WS)

The 2005 Marchese di Villa Marina (Cabernet Sauvignon) emerges from the glass with tons of dark fruit, tar, minerals and smoke. Still inward and tightly wound, the wine covers the palate as the aromas and flavors build towards the finish. Sweet herbs, flowers and menthol add nuance on the close. Ideally this really needs another few years in bottle.
